Trig Avionics TN72 is now supported by the LAA and BMAA

August 31, 2017

The Light Aircraft Association and British Microlight Aircraft Association have both given their technical support to Trig’s latest TN72 GPS Position Source.

This affordable device allows pilots with a Trig transponder to become ADS-B Out equipped, improving aircraft visibility and safety.

Edinburgh based Trig Avionics has worked with both associations to ensure a standard minor modification will soon be in place for LAA and BMAA pilots, allowing them to complete their own installation.

Steve Slater, Chief Executive of the LAA said, “More pilots are considering installing ADS-B equipment. ADS-B Out technology enhances flight safety and has recently been encouraged as the way forward by the CAA. The TN72 will be a valuable addition to those flying with a Trig transponder and this is timely news for pilots attending our annual LAA Rally.”

The TN72 is a small, ultra lightweight (110g) accessory that provides positional GPS data to the transponder. As a certified device the TN72 uses a Source Integrity Level of 1, commonly referred to as SIL 1 with a System Design Assurance of 1, known as SDA 1. Critically, some ADS-B In Traffic Receiver products will not display aircraft information that originated from devices which use lower quality SIL 0 and SDA 0 outputs.  This data may be ignored and not shown on a traffic display, potentially rendering your aircraft invisible to others!

You don’t have to compromise your electronic visibility when you fly with Trig. A TN72 will be visible across all types of ADS-B In equipment. BMAA Chief Inspector Rob Mott said, “Pilots are embracing ADS-B but they may not be as visible as they think they are. Going for certified technology will enhance visibility and is certainly recommended.”

The TN72 has a list price of £ 299 +vat, making it highly affordable. FAA certification has already been secured and EASA certification approval is due in October, at which point shipping will commence.

Pilots can order a TN72 today from an Approved Trig Dealer or find out more at this weekend’s LAA Rally at Sywell Airfield.
