Grant – flying high with Trig

November 20, 2015

Grant McGowan had no idea that his apprenticeship would involve flying up side down in an aerobatic stunt plane!

This was just another positive experience he enjoyed whilst training with Trig Avionics. Grant said “Trig design and manufacture avionics for general aviation so flying in a stunt plane was part of my introduction into general aviation. Experiencing spins, rolls and loops was amazing – so exhilarating, the buzz made it one of the best days of my life!”

Trig is now looking for a new Modern Apprentice for their 2016 scheme. The company provides high quality training in conjunction with Edinburgh College, as part of a four year HND in Engineering Technology.

“It’s pretty cool to think that equipment I’ve put together and tested will be working at 30,000 feet.”

Modern Apprentice Grant is clear about the advantage that his on the job engineering training at Trig has provided. “Trig has been a great place to learn and work, I’ve had lots of variety working on different products and test procedures. I’ve been given lots of responsibility and worked with teams from design, engineering and quality. I’ve learnt that aviation is a precision industry – it’s pretty cool to think that equipment I’ve put together and tested will be working at 30,000 feet.”

Neil Munro, Manufacturing Manager at Trig said, “Our Modern Apprenticeship scheme is a superb start to an engineering career. Our students are able to develop a ‘real world’ experience of engineering. It helps boost students academic understanding and helps us bring on new talent – this is vital to Scotland’s future economic success.”

Trig Avionics Limited export globally to over 42 countries and are experts in transponders, radios and surveillance technologies used by pilots and air traffic controllers. More information and applications for the 2016 Apprenticeship Scheme can be found via the link.
